Audi Brussels will produce exclusively for worldwide the first electric SUV brand with the four rings, the Audi e-tron quattro concept.
Audi prepares its network of international production with mass production of the first electric car from the company, which will start in Brussels in 2018. In addition, on the same floor their own batteries will also be produced.
The company also announced that, as part of this restructuring, the Audi A1, which is currently produced in Brussels, will go into production in Martorell, Spain, and the Audi plant in Gyor Hungary will take over production of the Audi Q3 , currently produced in Spain.
Rupert Stadler, Chairman of AUDI AG, says that the rotation of models benefit the global production network of Audi. “This new distribution will improve our efficiency, strengthening all sites involved.”
“It will allow us to use new synergies within the Volkswagen Group and group the key competencies. The decision protects jobs and promotes the internationalization of the production network, “added Stadler.
Since 2018, Audi Brussels will produce exclusively for worldwide the first electric vehicles brand with the four rings. The Audi e-tron quattro concept presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015 is a foretaste of the final production version. The sporty SUV will be positioned in the range of models from the Audi Q7 and the Audi Q5. Equipped with three electric motors and a high-capacity battery will give a range of over 500 kilometers and the possibility of using the system for rapid battery charging.
The Brussels plant will also have its own battery production. This factory will thus become a key location for electric mobility in the Volkswagen Group.
