The European Commission, has chosen Donostia / San Sebastián as a stage for demonstrations of automated, driverless electric buses.
After major European cities like Lausanne (Switzerland), La Rochelle (France) and Trikala (Greece), the European Commission has chosen San Sebastian to test an automated electric bus. The election is part of the European project CityMobil 2 whose goal is to experience and deepen the integration of automated vehicles in real environment.
The CityMobil2 project, and demonstration activities of this type in real urban environments. Besides exploring ways to overcome legal barriers that may hamper the development of automated transport systems.
Novadays consultancy and Tecnalia Research Centre as project leaders nationwide have promoted the candidacy of Science and Technology Park of Gipuzkoa to carry out the initiative. Being a closed space makes the implementation and operation of these automated vehicles more viable.
The automated electric vehicle, with a capacity of 12 people, will be used as last-mile transport, connecting urban public transport companies and centers of the Park. Donostia CityMobil 2 will arrive this spring and remain in the Science and Technology Park Gipuzkoa for three months.
